You Have To Work At It February 13, 2015 |
HelloYou Have To Work At ItLast week I saw my friend Linda who suffers from insomnia. Linda, spent several days with me this past summer and shared how for years she has had insomnia. Being able to empathize with her, I shared how for years I too struggled with falling asleep, staying asleep and some nights getting no sleep. Thankfully, I could also share how I was turning it around and that I was getting more nights with good sleep and fewer nights of insomnia. We discussed how there is usually no one thing that keeps a person awake - but usually a combination of many different health and lifestyle factors. She seemed interested in wanting to make some changes, so I suggested several books on sleep, different hormone tests she should consider, and other articles on what can affect getting quality sleep. Well, I saw my friend 6 months later and asked her how her sleep was. She responded, "Oh, about the same." When I inquired if she had made any effort in making some changes or getting some tests, she said, "No, not yet."It hit me, that I really "work" at making quality sleep a priority for me. I exercise, get out in the sunshine, gave up caffeine, tested hormones, take all kinds of different supplements, wear blue light blocking glasses at night, take epsom/lavender oil baths, stay off the computer/phone/iPad in the evening. The good news is that it has been worth it - not only do I get better quality sleep, but I also have a better quality day. So if you are willing to "work" at restoring healthy sleep then find out what you can do to turn things around:
